Respite: Creative Solutions for Giving Families a Well-Deserved Break

Date and time: May 22nd 9:30 a – 11:30 a

Location: The Butler County Educational Service Center, 400 N. Erie Blvd. Ste A, Hamilton, OH 45011

Description: Respite care provides relief for families who have children with complex and extra needs. These caregivers experience frequent strain that impacts their emotional and physical well-being. Respite allows for caretakers to get a break and breathe! It also allows them to take care of necessary tasks and build relational capital (spending time with their spouse, other children and friends). Children participating in respite also benefit from new experiences, socialization, fun and independence.

Respite options are limited in our community. Only 49% of families reported that a professional had even suggested respite care as an option and just 28% of families reported that they get caretaking breaks when needed. Of those getting respite, 69% report needing more breaks than they have available.

Join us to learn about a recent community survey about respite and how to put the results into action with the Community Wraparound Team and Pause for Parents Play for Kids. Training will focus on tangible take-aways to find creative and non- traditional respite options.
