Intent, Impact, and Allyship

Join us for a comprehensive training designed for youth-serving professionals who wish to cultivate spaces of affirmation and belonging for their young people. 

Explore the intent and the actual impact behind common microaggressions and other slights against LGBTQIA+ people, particularly transgender adolescents. Learn about what it truly means to be an ally, and take a deep dive into the many ways that professionals can improve the general climate of schools, community centers, organizations, etc. through various strategies from simple word choice to organizational policy change.

Participants will:
1. Increase awareness regarding intent, impact, and microaggressions, and identify the ways in which each may show up within daily work.
2. Identify a situation in which an inappropriate comment or question may occur, identify possible intents behind the comment or question, and explain why the comment or question could be problematic.
3. Demonstrate at least one potential affirming response to a young person coming out as LGBTQIA+.
4. Identify three individual next steps for application and integration outside the course.
5. Identify three organizational next steps for application and integration outside the course.

Target Audience: youth-serving professionals, administrators, teachers, social workers, and more.

Cost: Free! (Priority will be given to partner agencies in Butler County).
